Accessibility
Last updated 2 September 2026
Glancerange aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at Level AA. On a product whose entire subject is whether something can be read, that is not a badge on a policy page: an interface that argues about legibility and then fails at it has refuted itself.
Conformance
This site is designed and built to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We review against it when we change the interface, and we treat a failure as a defect rather than as a feature request.
What that means in practice here
- No sentence on this site is set below eighteen pixels, and there is no light grey copy anywhere. Fifteen pixels exists in the type scale, and it is used only for things that are not sentences: an uppercase section label, a unit beside a figure, the numerals under the tick marks on the distance rail. Every text colour has been run through the contrast formula against the surface it actually sits on rather than estimated; the lowest ratio anywhere in the interface is 4.85 to 1, most of the body copy is above 11 to 1, and the long-form policy pages are set at twenty pixels.
- Every simulated view has a written equivalent naming the words that remain readable at that distance. The sentence is generated by the same function that generates the picture, so the two cannot drift apart. A visual simulation on its own is not accessible, and on a tool about reading that matters more than it does anywhere else.
- The distance slider works from the keyboard as a native range input, with arrow keys, Home and End, and it announces its value as a distance in metres together with the verdict at that distance rather than as a bare number.
- There is a number field beside the slider. Dragging to an exact distance is difficult, and some people cannot drag at all.
- The three distance bands are never told apart by colour. They are ordered one, three, five; each is labelled in metres; each carries a verdict written in words; and each has a different number of tick marks. The comparison survives greyscale printing and any form of colour vision deficiency.
- Focus is always visible and never removed, with a three-pixel outline and an offset, on light and dark surfaces alike.
- Motion respects your settings. Everything animated stops under prefers-reduced-motion. The slider keeps working; it recomputes and repaints without animating between states, because the arithmetic is the point and the movement is not.
- Form fields have real labels, errors are described in words next to the field rather than by colour alone, and nothing important is announced only by a change of colour.
- The page works at 400% zoom and in a single column, without horizontal scrolling, and it works with a screen reader in reading order.
No accessibility overlay
This site does not use an accessibility overlay, widget, toolbar or plug-in, and it never will. Those products do not make an inaccessible site accessible; they add a layer over the problem, they frequently interfere with the assistive technology somebody is already using, and courts have repeatedly declined to accept them as a defence. The work has to be in the markup, and here it is.
What is not finished
We would rather list this than imply everything is perfect.
- The simulated canvas views cannot be magnified by browser zoom beyond the canvas resolution. The written equivalent carries the full answer, and increasing the distance field is the accessible route to the same comparison.
- Some long specification tables scroll horizontally on very narrow screens. They are marked as scrollable regions and reachable by keyboard, but a table is still a table.

Technical basis
This statement covers the whole of https://1789apparell.shop. It was last reviewed on 2 September 2026, against WCAG 2.1 Level AA, by internal review using keyboard-only navigation, a screen reader, automated checks and measured contrast ratios.
